Jennifer Walston-Oso

(f/k/a Jennifer Walston)

Jennifer handles all types of family law cases, including those with complex financial and high-conflict custody issues. While skillful at negotiating resolution, she will aggressively pursue litigated outcomes when necessary. Jennifer also handles post-judgment (post-decree) enforcement/contempt and modification issues, order of protection matters, relocation cases, third-party rights cases (e.g., grandparent visitation), pre-marital and post-marital agreements, small estate planning, adult guardianship matters, termination of parental rights cases, post-judgment collection and garnishment matters.

Jennifer began her journey in law early, working as a receptionist for her father’s Law Firm at age 17. Eventually, she was working side-by-side with her father as his paralegal. Over the course of the 15 years that followed, Jennifer had four beautiful children, obtained her associate degree in business, her bachelor’s degree in psychology, and then (finally) her Juris Doctor from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law (with Honors). Jennifer was licensed by 2015, practiced with her father for the next ten years, married her best friend, and then welcomed one (and final) child to the mix – all before opening her own Firm in mid-2025.

Confused? Let us help

While it may seem possible to reach an amicable resolution without counsel, in reality, complications often arise. These complications could be procedural or substantive and may not be able to be remedied later, even by an attorney. That is why it is always a good idea to consult with a lawyer, even if just to better understand the available options (which are not always obvious), and to have someone there to ensure that any agreements that are reached are enforceable and in compliance with court rules and procedures.
Arizona uses the terms legal decision-making and parenting time to describe what most people think of or refer to as “custody”. Arizona’s public policy is (without evidence otherwise), it is in a child’s best interest to have substantial, frequent, meaningful and continuing contact with both parents and to have both parents participate in decision-making about the child. However, there are exceptions, especially when there are issues of domestic violence, abuse, and substance abuse involved. Contact our office to discuss your specific circumstances, and we will help guide you through the process.

Major decisions regarding the health, education, and religion of the children can be made by one (sole) or both parents (joint); this is called legal decision-making authority.

Parenting time is how often the child or children spend their time with each parent. Creating an appropriate parenting plan requires consideration of many factors, including the age of the child or children, school schedules, location of the parents, child preferences, and whether more complicated issues exist (e.g., domestic violence).

The Arizona Child Support Guidelines provide a framework for calculating child support obligations, taking into account many variables including each parent’s income and adjustments for things like parenting time, day care, and health insurance premiums. Contact our office for assistance in calculating child support.
The timeline from filing to divorce can vary depending upon the complexity of your case. Typically, it is reasonable to anticipate anywhere from a few months (minimum) to over a year.
If you are a victim of domestic violence, you can (and often should) pursue an Order of Protection. In emergency situations, temporary orders can also be obtained in Family Court regarding legal decision-making and parenting time issues. Contact our office to discuss options that may be available to you.
